WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT MY THINNING HAIR LOSS?
Hair, like skin and nails, show our health and well-being. Hair thinning and hair loss can be a huge bummer and can cause great emotional distress. There are several different reasons for hair loss. A consultation and perhaps blood work can help you determine the cause.
One reason has to do with aging. As we age, our bodies change. Some more obvious than other like hair loss. While hair loss can affect people at any stage of life, losing hair is often a part of getting older.
Thinning hair is natural as the follicles that produce hair are not as productive as they were when we were younger. There are genetic reasons for hair loss as some are more predisposed to hair loss, or Androgenic Alopecia, is the most common form of hair loss and can be inherited from either of your parent’s side of the family.
Both men and women can suffer from genetic hair loss: referred to as Male Pattern Baldness, and Female Pattern Hair Loss. The underlying causes are the same for both conditions, but the resulting hair loss is different for men and women.
An estimated 25% of all men will suffer from Male Pattern Hair Loss by the time they reach 30, while half of all men will experience the condition by the age of 50. Hair loss in women is less common during youth, but in advancing age the number of women affected is similar to those for men.
Men may experience a receding hair-line and bald patches around the crown while women find their hair loss is subtler, like scattered thinning patches.
Can stress cause hair loss?
After any major life event, childbirth, death, marriage, divorce, job change, or illness you may notice an increase in shedding – either when brushing, when we wash out hair or see strands collecting in the shower, or on the pillow in the morning. Constant stress can accelerate the natural shedding process, so learn to manage stress! The good news is that when you are shedding, it’s the hair falling out, not the follicles, so the follicles do have the ability to regrow hair.
Also, Immunity-related hair loss is when the body mistakenly attacks the hair follicles. When large clumps of hair that fall out and leave a shiny, hairless patch this may be the cause. Blood work can help diagnose this.
Is my hair style or extensions the problem?
Pulling and tugging our hair can cause stress to the tresses. The constant weight and pulling from braids or hair extensions can cause long-term damage to the follicle. Once these follicles are damaged or lost, the follicle will not grow hair.
Can hair loss be reversed?
If the scalp is not entirely bald and the follicles have not died off completely, it is possible to prevent further hair loss, and even re-grow lost hair. At theSaratoga Hair Center at Williams Surgery Center we have successfully treated both men and women suffering from genetic hair loss.
Common Signs of Balding
· A noticeable change in how your hair reacts to being styled and brushed.
· Receding and/or thinning around the temples.
· Your hair is thinner and coming in slower.
When you notice one or more of these problems, it might be time to consider hair loss strategies. For more information on the different stages of balding, have a look at the Norwood Scaledeveloped by the American Hair Loss Association which stresses the need to understand there are many variants in pattern hair loss. For example, as hair loss progresses higher on this scale it becomes more difficult to keep your hair and potentially regrow lost hair.
In short, when considering treatment for your hair loss, it is important to understand just how far your hair loss has progressed. There will be times when you will have to relay this information to doctors and other practitioners so they can choose the best way forward.
Are there natural, chemical free hair fiber product?
YES! At out Saratoga Hair Center at Williams Surgery Center we have introduced our own all natural, chemical free hair fiber product called Hair Building Fibers. Our all natural hair fibers will make your hair thicker and fuller camouflaging untouched roots, thinning hair and hair loss without all the heavy chemicals found in other products on the market. These fibers come in a multitude of colors to match the color of your hair. Besides giving the visual of having thicker hair, an added bonus is it helps to conceal some gray regrowth!
Now, with an influx of people searching for a natural product to camouflage thinning hair and hair loss, there has been a growing demand for a product that is free of chemical ingredients and can be used daily in an effort to conceal hair loss and thinning. Most hair fiber products on the market today contain chemical compounds that can be absorbed through the scalp. Since hair fiber products are used daily, Saratoga Hair Center’s doctors decided to create a product without the heavy chemicals that can be harmful to the body.
With a simple daily application, these hair fibers conceal thinning hair and can be used alone for thinning hair, hair loss or in combination with hair transplant surgery. Our product is very fine, light and easily blends into the hair without clumping. The results are immediate and it can even help delay the need for coloring since you can easily cover grown out roots as well. The only way to remove the fibers is to wash your hair and shampoo it out.
What makes your product the best choice?
The key difference with our product is the fact that our hair fibers have a bipolar charge which works well with both our positively and negatively charged hairs. This allows the fibers to bind to the hair shaft in a perpendicular fashion similar to tree branches on a tree. This effect makes the hairs look much thicker than conventional hair fiber products that don’t cling and just fall to the scalp. More importantly, our Hair Building Fibers are 100% natural with no chemical ingredients that includes an all-natural colorant as well. Gossypium herbaceum is commonly known as Levant cotton and is a species of cotton native to the semiarid region of sub-Saharan Africa, Arabia, India and southern Europe where it still grows in the wild as a perennial shrub.
What else can you do to mitigate hair loss?
1. Supplement your Diet: There are several excellent vitamins on the market to help maintain proper nutrition for the hair. Our favorite is Nutrafol, formulated with ingredients clinically shown to improve hair growth by addressing multiple root causes: hormones, stress, nutrition, metabolism, and environment.
There are others such products as well. And, of course, eating a healthy balanced diet, including adequate protein and healthy fats is always great advice.
2. Microneedling of the scalp: Can help to stimulate Hair regrowth
3. LED Therapy: Reduce inflammation and stimulate mitochondria to help grow hair.
4. Custom Compounds with Minoxidil: A prescribed solution for hair loss or thinning. Addresses the complex biology of the hair follicle in a way that over-the-counter medications cannot.
6. Give your scalp a break from Extensions and Braids And go easy on blow drying, irons and and Chemicals:
There is information out there that suggestsBiotin, a B vitamin, essential for your health can also promote hair growth. Too little biotin can cause hair loss, however, we likely get sufficient amounts of it in your diet from Eggs. Biotin is present in egg yolks, almonds, cauliflower, cheese, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, spinach and other foods.
So, taking mega-doses of biotin will not necessarily give you more hair. In fact, no scientific studies have shown biotin to prevent or treat hair loss.
At the first signs of hair loss it’s important to take action. Don’t wait until the follicles are gone or damaged beyond repair. The body can heal and repair itself if given the right tools. We’d love to help you regain confidence and enjoy a healthy beautiful head of hair.
